Telling a Story

One of the most important aspects of photography is to tell a story with your photo. I mean, a pretty picture is a pretty picture, but without a story, as good as it may be, it will always be lacking something. A story invokes that human feeling within all of us, it's something that drags us in, captures our attention! For example, you can have an image like this....

And you can say that the image is fine, that the exposure is good, and so on.... However, it feels empty, there's something missing right? Imagine, if a person was in this photo, walking away from the photographer into the forest, that would be much better!

I think that it is almost paramount to tell a story in your picture, because it can bring so much more out of it! I think these photos serve as a decent example of this:

Remember, telling a story doesn't always mean that you need to add a human element to it, just something that can evoke the human emotions! Of course, this doesn't  mean that photos of landscapes are bad! There's a time and place for different kind of shots, but if you notice that your image is missing something, try telling a story! -Ghali
